Shaolin pagoda forest, my deepest moving

Pagoda Forest, situated near the Shaolin Temple, is the graveyard of Shaolin Buddhist abbots of various ages and it also has the largest quantity of old pagodas in China. Pagodas in the pagoda forest are provided with various shapes and patterns. The dynasties (Tang Dynasty, Songshan Dynasty, Jin Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty or Qing Dynasty) of their construction can be distinguished by the sharp or square pagoda tops. Depending on their disciples and economic conditions of the Buddhist abbots, sizes of pagodas differ from one another. Maybe monks also strived for power and saved case-doughs. It’s similar to our secular life. Their real knowledge and abilities are displayed by the number of pagoda storeys. The pagoda is normally of 1, 3, 5 or 7 storeys which show the owner’s knowledge and abilities. The storey is of single number which takes the meaning of monk being single. In addition, there’s also division of private pagodas and public pagodas, in other words, the difference between single burial and group burial.
How many pagodas are there in the pagoda forest on earth? The number of pagodas in the pagoda forest has become a mystery of Shaolin Temple which has a genteel name “phantom of pagoda forest”. It is said that: when Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty visited the pagoda forest in person, he was amazed at well-proportioned pagodas, so he ordered his three effective generals to enter into the pagoda forest and count the pagoda number for three times. But to his surprise, nine different results were provided. Emperor Qianlong flew into a rage and ordered all his soldiers to stand by pagodas, one soldier at one pagoda. At that time it’s quite dim and misty with so many pines and green cypresses which makes the environment a mixture of truth and falsehood. The 500 soldiers who all entered into the pagoda forest couldn’t get the accurate number. So Emperor Qianlong made comments of“phantom of pagoda forest”.
The pagoda forest is actually large. When you first enter into it, you can see several tourists, as you extend into it, the environment becomes more and more quite, only mountains, clouds, pines and cypresses go with us. There’s no ready paths in the old forest. Pines are under the sunlight, refreshing breezes bring the shadow of trees as if it is conveying the enlightment of western eminent monks. You focus on yourselves and immerse in a quite and beautiful environment far from the secular world. You may feel calm and relieved.
I wrote this essay to express my hard-won state of mind at that time. Chinese classical poetry is expert in creating artistic conception with remaining tastes. So I make a poet to express my minds.
Inverted bell sounds around the Shaoshi Mountain
Clouds secretly listen to the sound.
The juice of saffron crocus preserves the human body of Buddhist abbot
Pines protect the peace of its owners.
The pagoda of seven storeys shows the broad-mindedness of Buddhist abbots.
Craziness and Zen significance may be illustrated by it.
